NCIDQ Member Boards

NCIDQ's members are U.S. state boards and Canadian provincial associations that regulate the profession of interior design. Membership is not available to individuals. Interior designers who have met NCIDQ's eligibility requirements for education and training and passed the NCIDQ Examination are not NCIDQ members; they are NCIDQ Certificate holders.

Membership in the Council is restricted to bodies legally authorized to examine, register or discipline interior designers. Membership requires approval of the Council of Delegates. In considering any application for admission to membership, the Council of Delegates considers the aims and purposes of the Council; the prior and current activities of the applicant; the applicant's standards for admission of its interior design members; and whether such activities and standards make it in the best interest of the Council that the applicant be admitted to membership in the Council.

All Member Boards of NCIDQ will support the concepts and standards contained within the NCIDQ Core Provisions of Interior Design Model Language for title and practice acts and the Core Provisions on Interior Design Registration and Regulatory Board Rules.

Each Member Board appoints an Official Delegate, who is NCIDQ's point of contact throughout the year and receives all member-only correspondence. NCIDQ recommends that Member Boards appoint an Alternate Official Delegate who can attend meetings and vote if the Official Delegate is not available.

NCIDQ members receive these exclusive benefits among others:

  • Admit candidates to the exam for registration/licensure who meet the jurisdiction's requirements but not NCIDQ's
  • Receive passing status for all candidates whose addresses are within their jurisdiction
  • Authorize exam retakes when required for the reinstatement of the registration/license, which are otherwise not permitted
  • Guarantee candidates at least one exam center annually in their jurisdiction
  • Participate in forums and networking opportunities specific to Member Boards
  • Vote on issues affecting the profession and NCIDQ bylaws
  • Elect members of the NCIDQ Board of Directors
  • Receive internal "members-only" communications
